David Dat Nguyen is the Co-Founder and Chief Experience Officer of Sonix, an AI-powered platform that helps organizations turn audio, video, and documents into accurate, structured, and searchable information.

A designer who codes, and one who has been known to have opinions about copy, David works across product, design, customer experience, and go-to-market. His focus is simple: take complicated technology and make it feel remarkably easy to use.

At Sonix, David spends an arguably unreasonable amount of time thinking about transcription accuracy, recording quality, audio workflows, and the small details that separate software that merely works from software people actually enjoy using. That obsession has also spilled into writing about practical topics like recording better interviews, reducing background noise and crosstalk, and measuring transcription accuracy with word error rate.

Before Sonix, David was the first employee and Head of Design at Gusto, where he helped shape many of the company's earliest product experiences and brand elements. His work included payroll communications, Penny the Pig, and everyone's favorite recurring reminder that they still have a job: the paystub email.

Earlier in his career, David worked as a professional photographer, spent eight years in digital advertising, and co-founded two companies. Along the way, he accumulated a somewhat impractical collection of skills spanning product design, front-end development, copywriting, photography, marketing, and software entrepreneurship.

That same curiosity tends to spill into the rest of his life. Outside of Sonix, David can usually be found traveling with far too much camera equipment, roasting his own coffee beans, scuba diving (aka blowing bubbles underwater while looking at fish), attempting to cook or bake recipes with an unnecessary number of steps, drinking good wine, or continuing his long-running project of becoming slightly better at golf.
