Who transcribes Catalan content?
Catalan-language broadcasters and podcasters, regional governments and public institutions in Catalonia, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands, the national government of Andorra — the only country where Catalan is the sole official language — and universities across the Catalan-speaking territories all transcribe Catalan audio and video. Journalists and academic researchers working with interviews and oral history in Catalan are frequent users as well.
Catalan dialects and accents
Catalan splits into two broad dialect blocks: Eastern (including Central Catalan spoken around Barcelona, Balearic, and Alguerese in Sardinia) and Western (including Valencian, officially called Valencian in the Valencian Community). Eastern varieties reduce unstressed a and e to a schwa and unstressed o to u, while Western varieties keep these vowels distinct — a difference that affects how words sound in recordings.
Where Catalan is spoken
