Broadcasters, podcasters, university researchers, and legal and government professionals in Estonia transcribe interviews, lectures, and proceedings in Estonian. Journalists and diaspora communities in Russia and elsewhere also transcribe oral histories and community media in the language.
Estonian dialects and accents
Standard Estonian is based on the northern dialect group, which dominates broadcast media and everyday speech. South Estonian varieties such as Võro, Seto, Mulgi, and Tartu diverge substantially — Võro and Seto are sometimes classified as separate languages — so recordings from southeastern Estonia can differ noticeably from the standard.
