The MOV file format is one of the most common multimedia containers. It was developed by Apple and is the main file format of their QuickTime Movie codec. It is now fully-compatible for both Macintosh and Windows platforms. MOV files frequently use the MPEG-4 codec for video compression. MOV files may contain audio, video, caption tracks, and timecode information which can be used to synchronize media across multiple devices. MOV と MP4 は密接に関連したコンテナです。MP4（MPEG-4 Part 14）は Apple の QuickTime File Format から派生しており、どちらも一般的に H.264 動画と AAC 音声を扱います。MOV は ProRes などの Apple 固有のコーデックに対応し、macOS や Final Cut Pro と緊密に連携しますが、MP4 はウェブプレーヤー、Windows ソフト、ストリーミングプラットフォームにわたってより広くサポートされています。Apple 中心の編集ワークフローには MOV を、最大限のクロスプラットフォーム互換性が重要な場合は MP4 を選びましょう。
