What Service Can You Expect With Trint?

To fairly evaluate Trint’s platform, we conducted tests on its automated transcription service to assess its capabilities and limitations. Here are the key takeaways from our experience using Trint.

Accuracy

Trint claims a bold 99% accuracy rate, putting it on par with industry leaders like Sonix—or at least that’s the promise. In our testing, however, this number felt optimistic. We started with an interview of Marquez Brownlee, a popular tech YouTuber known for his high production quality. 

While the transcription was usable, it wasn’t the near-perfect result we were expecting. We would rate it closer to 90% due to the frequent misinterpretation of words, missing punctuation, and incorrect capitalization.

Next, we tested an Elon Musk interview from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The results were slightly better, but the limitations of Trint’s accuracy were still apparent.

Apart from the same word and punctuation issues, speaker identification became a noticeable pain point. When speakers left a slight pause between their turns, the tool performed well. But in quicker back-and-forth exchanges, it struggled to attribute dialogue, making the transcript harder to follow correctly.

Regardless, the performance of Trint’s speaker identification was significantly better than the issues we faced during our Temi review.

Is Trint’s Accuracy Really an Issue?

Trint’s accuracy is respectable, but it falls short of perfection—especially when considering its premium price point. While the platform performs well in controlled conditions, our testing highlighted several inconsistencies, including word misinterpretations, missing punctuation, and struggles with speaker identification during crosstalk. These challenges mean users often need to invest significant time in post-editing, which can be frustrating given the platform’s high costs.

The same holds true for the Elon Musk interview, where Sonix excelled in capturing dialogue accurately, even during fast-paced exchanges. Speaker identification was precise, and punctuation was handled with finesse, eliminating the need for extensive manual adjustments.

UI Responsiveness

Trint’s user interface is intuitive and generally responsive. The dashboard is user-friendly, contains all the information that would be essential to a first time user, and contains some tutorials as well.

Transcription speed was a bit of a concern, though. We transcribed two files, one with a duration of 2:01 minutes and another with 2:47 minutes. Both files took 2 minutes and 5 minutes, respectively.

However, once the file was transcribed, navigating the editing and playback tools was smooth and user-friendly. Overall, the platform is reliable but may experience minor delays during peak usage.

Post-Generation Features

Trint has a decent array of post-transcription tools designed to enhance user productivity. Features like transcript editing, word-by-word playback, and customizable subtitles allow for greater control over the final output. Additionally, the ability to export transcripts in multiple formats and seamlessly collaborate with team members are strong advantages. 

AI Analysis Tools

Trint provides AI-powered summaries that offer concise overviews of lengthy transcripts, helping users quickly identify key points without reading through every detail. While this feature is practical, it’s limited to summaries and lacks the depth or customization needed for more complex workflows. We don’t have any firm knowledge of how Trint decides what qualifies as a ‘file’ and it seems highly unlikely that the tool would treat a 3-minute file and a 1-hour file as two files. 

The Starter plan also excludes Trint’s translation capabilities, locks out certain export options, and limits the use of the custom dictionary as well.

Advanced Plan

Trint’s “Advanced Plan” is marketed as offering unlimited transcription, a feature that initially seems ideal for businesses or individuals with high-volume needs. However, the plan imposes a fair-use cap that limits daily usage, making the “unlimited” claim misleading. Compounding the issue is the lack of transparency—Trint does not disclose the specifics of the cap, leaving users uncertain about the actual extent of their subscription. Furthermore, users won’t even find out about the fair-use cap if they don’t read through the FAQs on the pricing page.

This lack of clarity can create significant challenges for users who rely on consistent and predictable transcription services.
