Russ:
Previously on Dumbgeons and Dragons:
Russ:
Flint, you are led into the center of this ring.
Tom:
So what I would like to do is some sort of attack where I go for more of his knee/shin area right off the start.
Russ:
He stumbles back again.
Amy:
See the light leave from his eyes?
Russ:
Yeah. You were looking for a woman as well.
Tom:
Does anyone remember her name?
Amy:
Hold on.
Carla:
Yes.
Amy:
No, I've got it... Maccath the Crimson.
Carla:
Yes.
Amy:
Knows stuff.
Tom:
She's a Tiefling.
Amy:
She's a Tiefling.
Carla:
Oh. She's a Tiefling.
Tom:
She probably wears red. Being as her name is the Crimson.
Russ:
You start to feel a little woozy. Barking Seal says,
Barking Seal (Russ):
I'm very sorry this has happened. I didn't mean to do this. I can fix your friend. Please don't kill me.
Worker (Russ):
We, we're just workers. We're just we're just polishing and cleaning and making sure his his giants are shiny and good.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
You mean all these dead giants?
Worker (Russ):
Yeah. Well, you got to polish dead giants.
Russ:
...see you. And call attention to all of the other ones and they all start croaking very loudly at you. He says that they do have a leader who sometimes speaks more better, as they put it.
Toad (Russ):
Maybe we could try to talk to him.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
In Draconic, really slowly, I say, Take me to your leader.
Russ:
A couple of them escort you into the back of that room that you're in. So in more to into area 14 for your map and back there, you find more toads. But one toad who looks fancy just looks much more fancy than all the other toads.
Amy:
Is he wearing a suit? Would you say he's dapper?
Carla:
I'm picturing, like, a Wind in the Willows toad.
Amy:
Yes. Same here, Mr. Toad's day out. Yes.
Carla:
Yes, 'cause he is fancy.
Tom:
Mister Toad's Wild Ride?
Carla:
That's the one!
Russ:
Exactly like that. But that toad is back there. And it looks like some of - it sounds like some of them are discussing with that toad, perhaps about you. That toad comes forward and in a very slow toad-y type voice -.
Amy:
Which I can't wait to hear.
Russ:
- Which you can't wait to hear.
Marfulb (Russ):
Mrrrrahhh I am Marfulb. Who are you? Mrrrahhh.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Hi, I'm Thia.
Tom:
I wondered who was gonna go first.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I'm Flint.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
I'm Nulara. We're looking for a dragon.
Marfulb (Russ):
Mrrrrahhh You're looking for Arauthator? Whyyyy?
Amy:
Did we switch the name?
Russ:
No, it's not Aguthator..
Tom:
We prefer to call him Arauthator.
Amy:
No, but it was Arauthator.
Russ:
Sure.
Amy:
Oh, but you know what?
Russ:
Arauthator.
Tom:
Well, Toad Guy might pronounce it weird.
Amy:
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Yes. We are looking for.. Arooathator?..
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Do you serve him?
Marfulb (Russ):
We serve. Yes.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Willingly?
Marfulb (Russ):
We keep track of treasures and goings on at Oyaviggaton.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I'm sorry, what?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Sorry. Pardon.
Russ:
And the goings on at O-ya-give-a... fuck!
Amy:
Oh yeah give a fuck.
Russ:
Oh yeah give a fuck.
Tom:
Bless you. Bless you.
Russ:
Oyaviggaton.
Amy:
Oh sure that's a V.. we'll go with that.
Carla:
Is that where we are right now?
Amy:
Yes, it is. It was at the top of the map.
Tom:
Yes. It's still there and does not look like that word at all.
Amy:
No, it doesn't.
Marfulb (Russ):
This is Oyagiveit.. Oyaviggaton. Fuuuck. This is Arauthator's lair. Mrrrrahhh I will refer to it only as Arauthator's lair going forward.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Seems easier.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
It's probably for the best.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Is he around?
Marfulb (Russ):
Yyyyeesssss
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
We, we're here from out of town.
Marfulb (Russ):
Do you mean harm? Mrrrrahhh..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
No!
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Nooo!
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Nooooo!
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Actually, you know what? Are we really looking for Arauthator? Or are we looking for his buddy?
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
We're looking for the lady.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
The lady with the horns.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
We're looking for Maccath the Crimson.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
We certainly are. We'd like to chat with her before, you know, we hang out with Arauthator.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Is there a Tiefling around here? We're looking for one.
Marfulb (Russ):
Yess there is, down the hall you will find herrr.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Cool, thanks!
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Keep up the good work.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I guess we should go down the hall.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
You're doing a fantastic job. We can see how organized you are when we talk to Arauthator, we're going to tell him that you guys need a raise.
Marfulb (Russ):
We love what we do. We don't get paid.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Oh.. then you need more responsibility.
Marfulb (Russ):
Yes. We keep track of all the things in the north.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
All of the things?
Marfulb (Russ):
And it's treasures.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Everything?
Marfulb (Russ):
We have vast knowledge of all the things that happen here in the north.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Do you know if there has been a Draakhorn up north?
Marfulb (Russ):
There was at one point. Yess, the Crimson Lady knows more about Draakhorn..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
More than you? I don't believe it!
Marfulb (Russ):
She was more in charge of The Draakhorn than I.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
She was in charge, you guys.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I think we need to go talk to her.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
For sure. Thanks buddy, what was your name again?
Marfulb (Russ):
Marfulb. Mrrrrahhh
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
We appreciate the chat, Marfulb.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Thanks, Marv.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Thanks so much.
Amy:
I'll leave the room and chuckle to myself.. "Marfulb!!"
Russ:
As you go out into the hall, Nulara's first I see?
Carla:
I am. I feel like this has gone well so far, I'd like to leave. We just had a nice, pleasant chat with those giant toads, so I'm happy to just keep moving along.
Russ:
Do you want to make a dexterity saving throw there Nulara?
Carla:
Oh, God. I mean, yay.
Tom:
That sounded like a resounding yes to me.
Carla:
Well, it was a critical fail.
Tom:
Oh my god!
Carla:
Well, I did call it. I thought it was going to be my new setup roll but..
Russ:
Oh, that one went well for ya
Carla:
My fall into a trap roll, or whatever I just did.
Russ:
And you walk out into the hall and you are struck.
Amy:
You don't want me to see that do you?
Russ:
Well, you can see it.. No because it's got all the details about what's happening.
Carla:
Do I slide on a banana peel?
Russ:
You slide on a banana peel..
Amy:
There's actually just a cucumber sitting there and you freak the fuck out.. lose your shit over this cucumber.
Russ:
You slide on a banana peel right into an ice troll's claws.
Carla:
Oh no.
Amy:
Like, does he hold her in a firm embrace?
Russ:
Yeah, it definitely does.
Carla:
Like King Kong style?
Amy:
Is it tender?
Russ:
Well, let's find out.
Carla:
Does he think I'm pretty?
Russ:
What's your what's your AC?
Carla:
My AC is 17, I believe?
Amy:
Sorry..
Russ:
It pulls you in and, well, it doesn't attack you with both claws, but it takes a bite out of you and you will take 5 piercing damage.
Amy:
Damn-age.
Carla:
And what did you say it was an ice what?
Russ:
Ice troll.
Carla:
OK, sounds great.
Russ:
So you should all roll for initiative now.
Amy:
We will!
Tom:
Yeah, alright.
Amy:
Fucking roll. 9. Haha yeah.
Carla:
Uh, 4.
Amy:
Guys, we're nailin' this.
Carla:
I'm doing real good tonight, I'm on fire.
Amy:
Every time you say tonight, it freaks me out.
Carla:
Oh, yeah.
Tom:
You're doing real good tomorrow morning.
Amy:
It's last night. Yeah.
Carla:
Bad news, guys. There's at least two more ice trolls - I don't know if you've looked at the map.
Amy:
No no..
Carla:
It's not just the one.
Amy:
It's piercing embrace. I do think something might start between you guys.
Carla:
Maybe.
Amy:
I might..
Tom:
There's some serious chemistry.
Amy:
I might use my one point to make it so.
Tom:
Oh, plot point.
Russ:
All right.
Amy:
Just kidding let's save that for a really important time.
Russ:
Obviously. Blue troll.. Blue troll gets to go first and he rushes towards you.
Amy:
I open my arms up wide to, like, invite him. Like, 'Bring It!'
Russ:
He does the same to you. Tries to bite you and attack you with their claws.
Amy:
That's very nice.
Carla:
Lotta dice getting rolled.
Amy:
Yeah, I'm hearing that!
Russ:
Bite against your AC is a 13.
Amy:
*buzzer noise*
Russ:
The two claws, however, are a 24 and a 19.
Amy:
Feck.
Carla:
Wow.
Amy:
Mmkay.
Russ:
That's 25 damage.
Amy:
Oh that's half my fuckin' hitpoints!
Carla:
Oh, my God.
Russ:
Well, you better fight back. It's Flint's turn.
Amy:
Jesus, Flint, buddy.
Tom:
I think you're.. I think Russ introduced his healing surge option just because he was gonna kick our asses.
Carla:
I think so too..
Amy:
I think that might be true..
Tom:
I wonder if I should go help Thia, or if I should go occupy the red guy who is seemingly unattached at the moment.
Amy:
He needs a dance partner.
Tom:
Well, I just don't want to go help you and then have him, like, sneak up behind you and kick your ass.
Amy:
Go for the red.
Tom:
All right.
Amy:
I obviously scream that at you as I'm being bitten.
Tom:
Okay, yeah, so I will, I will attack this.. What is it? That is Frost Giant you said?
Russ:
Ice troll.
Tom:
Ice troll. I like that we can't remember and it was literally a minute ago that you said it. Okay. So I will swing my two-handed axe towards his head, because that's how I roll.
Russ:
Fantastic.
Amy:
Ahh, that's how he rolls.
Tom:
24. But not critical by any way, shape or form.
Russ:
That's good. Yeah.
Tom:
8 and 11, whoa. 19 plus 4 is 23 on the first attack.
Russ:
Okay
Amy:
Nice
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Nice.
Tom:
And then 18 is my attack roll on the next one, fingers crossed.
Russ:
18's good.
Tom:
Sweet, sweet. Oops, rolled off the table. Hang on, hang on. Oh, 3 on the first one. That's what I get. And 9 is 12 and 4 is 16.
Carla:
Jeez. I watch for my claw-y embrace and I really am into what you're doing over there Flint.
Tom:
Excellent!
Russ:
Now Thia's turn.
Amy:
Okay. So I'm going to conjure flaming sphere, so you need to make a dexterity saving throw.
Tom:
I think what she meant to say is you need to fail a dexterity saving throw.
Amy:
Yes
Russ:
That's a 9.
Amy:
That is a fail.
Tom:
Whoa!
Amy:
So it's 2d6 - oh no wait, that's on a failed. Yeah. Two D six fire damage.
Russ:
Half if it's saved.
Amy:
Okay, so 6 damage. Really? That's it?
Russ:
He takes 12 damage.
Tom:
I was just going to say being some sort of ice troll, perhaps a flaming sword would be a good idea for Carla.
Amy:
That's why I chose fire - I thought these guys are ice. I would also like to do as a bonus action, healing surge.
Russ:
Okay.
Amy:
What do I do for that?
Russ:
You use one of your hit die.
Amy:
Any one? I can choose?
Russ:
You have d6 as your hit dice.
Amy:
I'm like any one of my.. Three?
Tom:
This d20 looks good!
Amy:
That's it?
Russ:
That's what you get, yeah.
Amy:
Okay, well I guess only having 22 hit points taken away is better than 25.
Russ:
Exactly.
Amy:
So, yes.
Russ:
It's now green troll's turn. He is going to attack you Nulara.
Amy:
He's gonna try.
Russ:
He's going to try with his bite. Gets 26 against your AC.
Carla:
Well, that'll do it.
Russ:
His claw is 10. Second claw is a 22.
Carla:
That will do it.
Russ:
So a bite and claw get through.
Carla:
Yeah.
Amy:
And the other one, he's just giving you the finger with.
Carla:
So he's just being rude.
Russ:
18 damage.
Carla:
Well then.
Russ:
And now it's Nulara's turn.
Carla:
Okay. I whisper 'muy caliente' to my sword. It's on, it's on fire now. I'm obviously attacking that, that banana peel jagoff that just gave me all that damage.
Russ:
Of course.
Carla:
18 on my first attack.
Russ:
18's good, yup.
Tom:
Nice.
Carla:
So he gets 6. But that's piercing. Okay. Yeah. But the fire damage is 5 is 11. So do you need those separate because does he get more from fire?
Russ:
He gets more from the fire, yeah so double the fire.
Carla:
Okay. So 6 plus 22. So 28.
Russ:
Okay.
Amy:
Yeah. Do it.
Carla:
Second attack. Ooh. 19, 28. And then 5. Plus. Okay.. So 4.. 5.. 10.. 15 damage.
Russ:
All right.
Carla:
Then Don-E's gonna bite that mofo. Maybe.. uhh nope, he got a 13, Don-E's not going to bite him.
Russ:
No.
Amy:
Don-E didn't have a turn last time, did he.
Russ:
Last time?
Carla:
We haven't had turns yet. That was my first turn.
Russ:
She got snuck attacked.
Amy:
Oh, right.
Carla:
I slipped on that banana peel
Amy:
Snuck attacked?
Russ:
Snuck attacked.
Amy:
Sufferin snuck attacked.
Carla:
That sounds like snacks, and it makes me wish I had one.
Tom:
Snacks would be so good right now.
Russ:
Red guy's turn and he goes for Flint on his bite.
Tom:
Bring it!
Russ:
That is a 23 against your AC.
Tom:
Okeedokee.
Russ:
On this first claw. Another 23.
Tom:
Consistent.
Russ:
And second claw is an 11.
Tom:
Hooray.
Russ:
So one bite and a claw - you are going to take 18 damage.
Tom:
Okay.
Russ:
Back to the top. We got blue troll.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Guys I think, I think I might die. So if I do, know this - I really wish I got to sleep with Salazar.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
We'll make sure to tell him for ya
Amy:
..daughter walked in at just that moment - gimme a sec.
Russ:
Alright, he's attacking you there Thia. Bite.
Amy:
Right. I wanted to sleep with Salazar, but I never got the chance. So, Nulara..
Russ:
Bite 16. Claw.., no, 16 against your AC.
Amy:
Oh, right, okay.
Russ:
Which hits.
Amy:
Which hits me but is not 16 points.
Russ:
11 for the first claw, so that's no good. And 9. So you only take a bite on that one.
Tom:
Nice.
Russ:
That is 10 damage, though.
Amy:
All right. That only brings me to 32.
Carla:
Oh, that's not so bad.
Amy:
No, no.
Carla:
You tell Salazar yourself.
Russ:
You will make it. Flint, you are up sir.
Tom:
All right. Out of curiosity, how hurt is the red fellow looking?
Russ:
He is not looking bloodied
Tom:
Okay
Russ:
If that's what you're asking.
Tom:
I was asking exactly that question. I guess I could have phrased it that way.
Carla:
You were being so passive about it
Tom:
I was being very coy.
Carla:
Yes.
Russ:
How much information is he going to give me here?
Tom:
For free without rolling some sort of perception check? All right. I will. Yeah. Yes, I will go right back to attacking the red ice troll.
Russ:
Fantastic.
Tom:
It's a 19 on the first one.
Russ:
Yes, sir.
Tom:
6 and 11 is 17 plus 4 is 21 damage.
Russ:
She is looking bloodied now.
Tom:
Excellent. I will continue attacking him.. so that's 21. Not critical by any way, shape or form. 8, oh, off the table, and 6 is 14 and 4 is 18.
Russ:
He is. He's looking like he's seen better days, but he's still standing.
Tom:
Excellent. All right.
Russ:
Thia, you're up.
Amy:
Ok. Are these guys wearing armor of any kind?
Russ:
Negative.
Amy:
They're naked?
Russ:
I said negative.
Tom:
So, yes, they're naked.
Amy:
So they're naked.
Russ:
Yeah.
Amy:
Ok, well, I'm going to use my flaming sphere again because it remains. So I'm going to hit it with it again as a free move.
Russ:
Yeah.
Amy:
16 damage. I doubled it for you, 'cause I'm super nice like that. And then I'm going to produce flame and hit him with that - 2d8, oh shit ow, 16 damage done with it.
Russ:
He is bloodied.
Amy:
Oh, yeah. And he deserves it, too.
Russ:
It is green guy's turn now. He goes to attack you Nulara, bite misses. That's an 11. Claw is a 17.
Carla:
That is my AC.
Russ:
Hits. And Claw two is a 22. So you get two claws on this one here.
Amy:
Part of me feels like it should hit, but it should only, like you should only have to take half the damage because it's not like it's..
Carla:
Just barely hits, right?
Amy:
Like it half hits so you only have to take half damage. I know that's not the way this works.
Tom:
A glancing blow.
Carla:
But it is logical. It does make sense.
Russ:
That's 22 damage.
Amy:
Eek!
Tom:
Yow!
Carla:
Well. Ol' Nulara - not feeling so good right now.
Russ:
And it's your turn Nulara.
Carla:
Great.
Amy:
Oh I forgot to do my healing thing, shit. Don't forget to heal yourself.
Carla:
I'm okay, still, probably.
Amy:
No, but you get a free one. It's a free bonus move, a healing surge.
Russ:
Yeah but you still have to use them.
Carla:
But then I use one of my die. Right?
Amy:
Oh, I didn't know that. Sorry, I did not realize that. Never mind.
Carla:
We'll see. You know, I just use those hit die if I die anyway, so lets save 'em. It's a 19, my first attack.
Russ:
19's good, yeah.
Carla:
Okay, so that is a 3. 6 and 6 is 12. Doubled is 24.. 27 on my first attack. Second attack is a ten. So that does nothing. Good thing that first one was good. Don-E rolled natch 20, because he's amazing.
Russ:
Fantastic.
Carla:
Okay, so what does that mean? Double damage?
Russ:
Double damage.
Amy:
Does Don-E have fire?
Carla:
No he doesn't. He gets so.. 1d4 plus 2. So 5 on the first one. And then 6. So 11. And then you have to do a constitution saving throw.
Tom:
Oh come on Don-E.
Carla:
Oh, this would be amazing.
Amy:
Is that 11 supposed to be doubled though?
Russ:
No, because it's not fire.
Tom:
No fire.
Carla:
No, I did two rolls.
Amy:
No, no.. oh you did two rolls. Oh I got you.
Carla:
Yeah. He only gets a d4 plus 2.
Russ:
It's a 20.
Carla:
Well, I guess he does not get stung then.
Tom:
Critical failure Russ.
Russ:
Sorry, guys. 'Kay, red guy's turn. Going for you Flint.
Tom:
Oh, yeah.
Russ:
Bite. That's a 21. Not critical. 18. And that's a 21.
Tom:
Oh, I'm taking the full brunt.
Amy:
Brace yourself. Oh.
Tom:
So many dice.
Carla:
Jesus, that was like 50 die.
Tom:
I don't like this silence.
Amy:
It's just Russ trying to do math.
Carla:
He's doing all that math on those thousand die he just rolled.
Tom:
I thought he was like trying to pick the right tone to tell me that I was obliterated.
Russ:
That's 29 damage.
Tom:
Oh.
Russ:
And blue guy's turn.
Amy:
This is me.
Russ:
Yeah that's you.
Tom:
Is he part of the Blue Man Group?
Russ:
He is, absolutely. Just on the weekends though. So that's a 12 bite, that's not..
Amy:
No.
Russ:
That is a critical miss, on that one.
Carla:
Perfect.
Russ:
And that is a 9. You got that one scott-free there.
Amy:
Now I'm going to murder him.
Russ:
Flint, you're up sir.
Amy:
Oh right, right it's not me. Sorry!
Tom:
All right. I will I will try and destroy this red guy once and for all.
Russ:
K
Tom:
So it's a 19, but not a crit.
Russ:
Yeah.
Tom:
10 on the first one. 11 on the second one and 4 is 25.
Russ:
Excellent.
Amy:
Is he, is he dead?
Russ:
He's still standing.
Tom:
Damn it. All right.
Amy:
Let's try again.
Tom:
Is a 17, i can't remember, does that hit him?
Russ:
17 does hit. Yeah.
Tom:
Excellent. Oh, 12. That's a nice max roll. And 4 and 4 is 20.
Amy:
Is he dead now?
Russ:
He's still standing.
Amy:
Good lord.
Tom:
Oh my.
Russ:
Thia - you're up.
Amy:
Yeah I am. Ok, so I'm going to produce flame because I can't use my flaming sphere anymore. And so that's like..
Russ:
Why can't you use your flaming sphere?
Amy:
Well, because I've already used it once
Tom:
Yeah but I think it sticks around every round..
Russ:
Doesn't it stick around for like a set period of time?
Amy:
It does. But I didn't write it down so..
Russ:
Look it up - up to one minute..
Amy:
Flaming sphere I have here is 3d6.
Russ:
Why haven't you been rolling through 3d6?
Amy:
Well because it's different on my thing. This is fucking stupid. I was like, really? It's only a 2d6? That's messed up.
Russ:
Okay, well roll an extra d6.
Amy:
I'm gonna because I'm going to hit him with a flaming sphere..
Russ:
And it's up to a minute, so yeah, you're still good.
Amy:
Okay, 6. That's 9. 12. So 24 damage.
Russ:
Roll another dice because you got two flaming spheres where you didn't have it.
Amy:
Plus 4.
Russ:
32.
Amy:
Yup.
Russ:
K.
Amy:
And now I'm going to do produce flame... it's only 2d8.
Russ:
Yeah.
Amy:
Yes. So that was 8 damage..
Russ:
He also is not looking at his best but he's still standing. And it is green guy's turn. How are you doing on the hit points there Nulara?
Carla:
I have 22 hitpoints.
Russ:
You're good then. You're good.
Carla:
I'm fine..
Tom:
That's confidence for ya.
Russ:
On the bite, that's a 14. On the claw, that's a 26.
Carla:
Yeesh.
Russ:
And the second claw, that's a 13. So just the bite, I beleive..
Carla:
Just that one.. that one then.
Russ:
That's 6 damage, and your turn.
Carla:
Okay. 24. My first attack. And then 6 plus 5 is 11, 22 plus is twenty eight damage.
Russ:
Okay.
Carla:
My second attack is 17. That is a hit?
Russ:
Yes.
Carla:
Great. 5, 5, 10. 20. 26 on that one. Don-E's gonna try and sting him. He will not succeed because he rolled a 3.
Tom:
Don-E, so close.
Russ:
It is red troll's turn. And as he goes to move towards Flint, he falls over and he is dead.
Amy:
Yes.
Carla:
Hey.
Tom:
I Like that.
Carla:
Kill my guy.
Russ:
Blue troll.. he is still moving and going towards Thia... His bite. That's a 25.. claw, that's a 9 and 11 for the second claw..
Amy:
So just the bite.
Russ:
And that's 5 damage.
Amy:
Phew...
Tom:
Well, that's not too bad.
Amy:
No.
Russ:
And it's Flint's turn.
Tom:
Hurray! All right, let's launch more giant ax attacks at this red fellow.
Russ:
Sorry, red fellow dropped. He's dead.
Tom:
Oh, right. I forgot all about that - solid red X through him though, I like that.
Russ:
Thank you.
Tom:
Okay, I will uhh.. Who's worse off for hit points between Nulara and Thia?
Amy:
I've lost 37. I've got 20 hit points left.
Carla:
I have 16 hit points left.
Amy:
Help Nulara!
Tom:
I'm going to rush over to Nulara and try and take down the green fellow.
Carla:
Oh you did rush.
Tom:
Oh yeah - right on over there.
Russ:
Speedy little Dwarf.
Tom:
I have some sort of haste spell on, I'm sure. That's a 17 which I believe we've been over already and it hits.
Russ:
Yup!
Tom:
7 and 6 is 13 and 4 is 17.
Russ:
Okay.
Tom:
And a 20 but not critical. 7 and 6 is 13 and 4 is 17.
Russ:
Sounds good. He's still standing there.
Tom:
Okay.
Russ:
And it's Thia's turn.
Amy:
Okay - blue guy, obviously. I'm gonna hit him with my flaming sphere, which is actually 3d6.
Tom:
Excellent.
Amy:
6, 5, 4. Ooh yeah. 15, so 30, 30 damage on that one. Do I need to do anything else?
Russ:
You do.
Tom:
Oh man.
Amy:
I thought that'd be it! Produce flame - then I flame him all up. I'm gonna let it roll for me. 20 damage.
Tom:
Nice .
Amy:
I like the noise it makes.
Russ:
Green guy's turn now and he, like red guy, falls to his death and now it's Nulara's turn.
Amy:
Kill the blue one for me. Swoop in and Salazar it up. Go for it.
Carla:
I'm gonna try. Well, that was a 13 on my first attack so that will not work. And then a 25. So that one will. So that is 20 damage
Amy:
Nice.
Tom:
Solid.
Carla:
Oh Don-E can try and bite him too. He does not. He rolled a 2 plus his 3 is a 5. That will not work.
Amy:
Good try Don-E.
Russ:
He is still standing at the end of your turn. But as his turn begins, he falls over dead as well. So all three of them are now deceased.
Amy:
Nice.
Tom:
Excellent work.
Amy:
These are the first things in this layer that didn't want to talk to us and just wanted to fight.
Carla:
It's true! Because we ruined their game of lay down banana peels?
Russ:
You missed the banana peel so he just got really pissed off and attacked.
Carla:
Yeah, he was really mad.
Amy:
It always works on TV.
Tom:
Seems like an overreaction, but all right.
Amy:
I think I'm gonna take a healing potion
Carla:
Yeah, me too.
Tom:
That's probably a good call.
Russ:
As you look down and around, the toads have kind of retreated back into the back of their lair, den area.
Amy:
I turn around and go. Did you hear this?
Tom:
No, we didn't appreciate your condescending tone.
Russ:
And you see something scurry down the hall in the direction you were planning on going.
Carla:
Can I perception check to see if I see what that is?
Russ:
Sure.
Carla:
I don't.
Amy:
I want to try to proceed. I also don't.
Tom:
Let me save you all the trouble. I did not. All right. Well, I might as well roll if everyone else is rolling. I also did not.
Russ:
You guys just see a flash of something, run back down the hall. And you don't make out what it is.
Carla:
Okay
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Let's just go see what it is.
Russ:
You hear from behind you, one of the frogs say.
Toad (Russ):
Don't go into the next room.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Why?
Toad (Russ):
That's where the trolls live.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Okay
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Thanks.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
What what what room is Maccath in?
Russ:
Hey you're asking this to the frogs?
Tom:
Yes.
Toad (Russ):
She is the next next door on the left.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
The next next door?
Toad (Russ):
Next next door on the left. It's not the trolls room. The next door on the left.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
The troll's room is on the right..
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
That would be the door on the right then?
Toad (Russ):
Yep. Door on the right. We're frogs.
Tom:
Ahh yes. Okay. So that's room, what, nine from the looks of it?
Russ:
Yes.
Amy:
Or a six if you're coming at it from the different angle.
Tom:
Oh
Russ:
It's very confusing.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
So we walked down the hallway saying thank you.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Thanks again.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Walk over the dead bodies of the trolls. We, we're honestly we're not here to fight, we're just..
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
They attacked us!
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
It wasn't cool.
Russ:
Going down the hall, you walk past where the trolls live. Looking in, you just see it is a cavernous chamber filled with like drifting mist and ice pillars rising from the floor to the ceiling, and the sound of running water coming from in that room. But otherwise, you don't see anything else at first glance, going past there.
Carla:
That's alright. We're looking for her anyway. Even if they hadn't told us the trolls live there.
Russ:
So you go into the next room on your right there, and it is an empty chamber. But there is, you see the one entry way at the back of the chamber there. As you go into the back entry way in the back of this room here, there is a ramp that goes up, and at the top of the ramp, there is a single troll standing guard. He looks uncertain of you, but it doesn't look like he's making a move to attack you or move towards you at this point.
Carla:
Can I do a banana peel perception check?
Russ:
Sure. Yeah.
Carla:
I don't want that to happen again. Oh, thank goodness. That is a fifteen.
Russ:
No banana peels. No banana.
Carla:
That did not go well for me last time.
Tom:
It really didn't.
Amy:
I - so he's seen us already.
Russ:
He sees you, yeah.
Amy:
So I call up.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Hey..
Tom:
Solid, I like it. It's a solid lead.
Russ:
And what language do you call that up in.
Amy:
Ummm.. Draconic?
Russ:
And he says, back to you.
Troll Guard (Russ):
Who are you? What are you doing here?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
We're here to visit Maccath.
Russ:
He doesn't like that. And he comes barreling down the hall towards you.
Amy:
Okay.
Tom:
That's what you get for being honest.
Amy:
You know what, though? He slips on a giant banana peel, slides straight out of the room into the hall where he just kind of like continues down its icy, slippery banana peel path. And he's never seen again.
Tom:
That's convenient for us.
Carla:
Who is leaving all these bananas everywhere?
Tom:
Sounds like Amy used her plot point.
Amy:
As he comes down that ramp though, I give him I give him a shove out to the right. And he goes out the door and it's comedic, it's very slapstick. We all giggle and his arms are flailing backwards, as he just zooms down the hall.
Russ:
Zooms.
Amy:
Eventually, he does find himself a wall and he smacks into it and falls unconscious to the floor.
Russ:
Of course. Of course.
Amy:
Plot point used.
Tom:
Plot point used.
Carla:
Love it.
Russ:
All right. Takes care of that for you guys.
Carla:
I love it. Just for the slapstick I love it.
Tom:
Yeah, The sheer Benny Hill-ness of it is just off the charts.
Russ:
So you go up the ramp, I assume.
Amy:
Yeah. He's guardin' something.
Russ:
So the empty ice floor of this chamber holds a most unexpected sight. A large shelter is seemingly built out of scraps in the style of tents used by the desert nomads of Calimshan, some two thousand miles to the south.
Amy:
of course.
Russ:
You see no obvious opening, but there are overlaps in the fabric that is used.
Carla:
We say helloooo
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Maccath?
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Maccath, are you in there?
Russ:
No. No answer is received.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Guys, I'm really worried about this tent. I feel like it's just gonna be like a theater curtain. I'm going to struggle with finding the opening. It's going to be akward.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
It's your worst nightmare all over again.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Nulara, you go first.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Went real bad for me last time I went first. Flint, can you go first?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I'll go first.
Tom:
So I try and find an opening in the seams and try to get into that there tent.
Russ:
Yeah. And you do. And the interior of the shelter is surprisingly warm, thanks to a small stove and simple lamps burning what you smell as aromatic whale oil. Carpets are heaped on the floor in thick layers and tapestries from every culture in Faerun hang suspended from a sturdy frame of whale ribs. You see books and scrolls that are stacked neatly on tables and reading stands made of hide and whalebone. The only furnishings in the shelter not made from these natural materials are the carpets and tapestries and a portable writing desk that appears to have been taken from a sailing ship. And seated at the writing desk is a female tiefling wearing a blazing crimson cloak over tailored furs. The cloak is fastened with a silver and ivory broach bearing a design reminiscent of a stylized branching tree, which is the symbol of the Arcane Brotherhood. 2 kobold attendants stand nearby glancing nervously between you and the tiefling and after a few moments, the tiefling looks up with an expression of pale disinterest and asks,
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Have you come to save me or kill me? Not that there will be much difference between the two.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
It's clearly not her. We should probably just leave.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Oh, sorry - we were looking for a different Tiefling. Sorry to bother you.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Wearing a red cloak, yeah.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
One that's a little less bitchy. Maybe. Well, you know, that's kind of up to you. We just had some questions.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
If you need saving, we will try to save you. If not, we would just love answers to our questions and we'll be on our way.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
True. People have kind of stopped looking for you at this point, so if we don't come back with you it's not a huge deal.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
And who are you?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I'm Thia.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Flint.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Nulara.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
And who has sent you?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Someone remember the organizations that...
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
We spoke to, Dalla Silver-Horn, and she told us about you and said you you were an expert in The Draakhorn and we should seek you out and that you had been missing.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
That is true.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
You look you look comfortable here. Are you missing or did you just just move just move to a new place on this floating iceberg?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
No forwarding address.
Russ:
Do you want to make a charisma or persuasion check of some some kind?
Carla:
Well, that didn't go well. Which is in keeping with my character that it was a 6, a 6 on that persuasion check.
Amy:
So really, she's just yells out 'bitch, you cool?'
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Flint and I just kind of look at her..
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
I am rough.. I, you know..
Russ:
She says,
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
What color was Dalla's hair?
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Oh God. I already put my notebook away.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Well her last name is Silver-something, right? Let's go with silver.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Fine. You guys check out. I'll let you in.
Russ:
She says,
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Have you come to find just The Draakhorn? Or... Well, now that you're here, you'll have to do something about the dragon cause he's not going to let you leave. But how do you intend to deal with that?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Oh, we're kind of just fly by the seat of our pants warriors. So..
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Yeah, we're not really planners.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
No, 'cause if we can get away without fighting, we'll probably take that option. However, he is kind of terrorizing everybody around here and we feel the need to help out with that. He won't be the first dragon we've slain.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
I've seen many warriors as strong as the looks and the likes of you be devoured by Arauthator. It just leaves me nervous for your well-being. But you asked if I was missing. And yes, I have been missing. I arrived here three years ago and Arauthator would have normally killed me without a second thought. However, the broach of The Arcane Brotherhood, which I still wear, he thought that that might present a solution to two problems that he had and thus kept me around.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
What problems does he have?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
First, the dragon possessed, still possesses numerous items and writings which were stolen from The Arcane Brotherhood, some of which defied his understanding even after decades of study. He wished that I would help him decipher and figure out these these writings.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
He's a scholar.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Second, Arauthator had long sought a way to help his mate Arveiaturace overcome her grieving over the death of the wizard she once served - replacing that dead wizard with a living one and a member of The Arcane Brotherhood, for him, seemed like a great idea. That has not worked out well for him. But I've convinced him that keeping me around to go through these writings is in his best interest.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
So you weren't good enough for his Lady Dragon? Is that...
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
She has many levels of psychoses. In fact, she still wears her dead wizard on her on her back saddle. It's kind of a weird state that she is in.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
How is an independent dragon like Arauthator, who's his own master, together with a crazy psycho dragon?
Russ:
Hey, I'm your Dungeon Master, Russ More. Thanks for continuing the journey with us for Episode five of Dumbgeons and Dragons. This one titled: Bananas are Dangerous. And it's true. They are very dangerous. Obviously. I don't have a huge amount to talk about today, so I'll jump right into the part I'm most excited about. And that's the reviews from you. Think Pinker says 'Adventure Time. Game on, folks. Just go and have a listen already. You're going to dig it.' Thanks so much, Think Pinker. And Julie456 says 'my new favorite show. I'm thrilled to have found this show. I love the storytelling and obvious rapport and chemistry among the players and D.M.. I don't have a local D&D group, nor the time to play. But with this show I feel like I'm part of the adventure. Please keep making episodes. I beg you, please!' Don't worry. We'll keep putting them out as long as people are still listening to them. Right? I'm really loving the reviews. It's great to hear from you, the people who are enjoying the show. Sometimes with something like this, I'm sure you can go quite a while without hearing from anybody, you know, to have a few reviews so early on in our run it really, really helps solidify that this is something fun that we want to keep doing for as long as we can. If you think about it after this episode and if you haven't already, you could leave a rating and review about the show. Reviews, I know, certainly help me out when I'm looking for a new podcast or listen to. It's certainly all part of that process. Alternatively, if you have a friend who might like what we do, pass our name along to them. We hope the community we're building here grows on its own through word of mouth from people who like what we do. If you wanna be involved in the Dumb Dragon universe, you can visit dumbdragoncast.com. All of our social media and episodes and email links are all listed there. On Twitter, we are @dumbdragoncast - you can use the dumbdragoncast hashtag (#dumbdragoncast) so we can track you down and find out who's talking to or about us. And to give you just a bit of a heads up, it will be a bit of a longer episode, almost a bit of a double dose of adventure for you. Have a wonderful couple of weeks and we'll talk to you then.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
The mating protocols of dragons sometimes eludes even the even the most scholarly of dragon studiers such as myself - clearly.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I can tell with the words you used. Okay.
Russ:
So..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I Feel like she needs to die, too, just because she's crazy dragon.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Oh, I thought you meant Maccath, and I was all, 'Oh, let's dial it back a notch here'
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Anyone see a river around here? I heard running water in the other room.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Oh boy, here we go. So much like the kobolds that are polishing corpses a few rooms back, you've convinced this dragon that you are useful to him?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Yes, exactly. So that is how I've survived this long.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
So is this dragon just kind of dumb or what?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
No, he is he is quite intelligent and I am serving a purpose for him in that I am deciphering these these texts.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
You're doing it real slow aren't ya?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Real real not fast. I mean, it's taking me quite a while to get through them. There's some very in-depth things. But yeah, I'm taking taking my sweet time. Taking my sweet time.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Hey.. There.. I look over to the 2 kobolds that are, like, obviously trying to pretend like they're not listening to the conversation, but they are and I kind of gesture like what's like these guys like make sure you don't leave, or make sure no one comes in. Because if if so, if it's the latter, they're doing a terrible job.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
They're here, to.. If something does happen to me or otherwise to inform Arauthator of what's going on. Yeah.
Amy:
And I'm like.. (mumbles)
Russ:
Before you before you said that, you noticed them kind of skirting to the side a little bit, but they stopped as soon as you started talking about them.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I see you! Is there like a leash or a collar for them or anything..
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
There are there are some ropes around, yes.
Russ:
She hands you a couple ropes.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Guys, should we maybe tie them up?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I don't think they're really doing much to hinder us at the moment, so maybe we should just leave them be.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
No, but they run off and tell Arauthator that we're..
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I'm pretty sure he knows we're here.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Well, yeah, I guess so. Fine. I glare at them, like 'if you move...'
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
We should probably find out all we can about this Draakhorn and various other things that are going on.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Indeed. What's up with The Draakhorn?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
What up with that?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Well, let me tell you about The Draakhorn. Let me find the right page in my many texts and tomes to tell you about The Draakhorn. The Draakhorn was here when I arrived, however, a group of humans wearing distinctive robes came to the iceberg half a year ago or so.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Oh, were they purple?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Yes, they had they had a purple purple hue to them. Yes. After negotiating with Arauthator, they took the device away.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Arauthator is stupid.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
They may have made a deal with him.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Do you remember what the deal was?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
I was not involved in the deal. But if he allowed them to leave with one of his possessions, I can only assume that it would be beneficial for him.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Even despite the fact that with The Draakhorn, they could control him?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
It's more of a signaling device.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
A suggestion more than anything.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
The Draakhorn..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
It's a come-hither
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Let me tell you about The Draakhorn.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Ah, yes.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
The Draakhorn was a gift from Tiamat in the war between dragons and giants. It was once the horn of her ancient Red Dragon consort Ephelomon.. (there will be a test afterwards) that she gave to the dragon kind to help them in their war against the Giants. The Draakhorn is a signaling device, but it is so large that it requires two medium size individuals, humans or otherwise, or one larger giant type to carry it. Well, another sounds it making the Earth resonate to its call. The horn has been blasted with fire into a dark ebony hue and is wrapped in bands of bronze with draconic ruins that glow with purple eldritch fire. The low moaning drone of The Draakhorn discomforts normal animals within a few miles. But it alerts all dragons within two thousand miles to rise and be wary for great danger is at hand. Those with the knowledge of The Draakhorn's history know that it was built to signal danger to chromatic dragons - a purpose The Cult of the Dragon has corrupted to call chromatic dragons where they may now be located. Got all that?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Let me get this right. It plays Paul Simon's Kodachrome.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Yeah
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
And that's all it does.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Yes. Calls the dragons.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Perfect.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
So it used to just alert the Dragons like, hey, watch out, danger is-a-comin'. But now The Cult of the Dragon has changed that. So now it actually summons dragons to a specific place?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
That is correct.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Shitty. Do dragons have the option of not listening to the sentence?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
They are drawn to its call. Now that you're here, Arauthator most certainly knows that you are here as well.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
We've talked to like everyone on the way.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Yeah. If you were to attempt to make an escape, you may not be able to do so as long as he is able to fly and attack your ship.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Well, we'll probably just have to kill him.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
I anticipated you would be saying that. There are some things I can give you if you can help me escape and bring things with me.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Sure.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
What I would like to bring are the stolen goods from the arcane brotherhood.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Of course.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
My organization would wish to have those back. Most of those are located in the Scriptorium, which is located right next door. She points to the back corner..
Amy:
At the totes.
Russ:
No. No. She points to the back and says here, which you can't see. But she points back here and says back through there is a large library of volumes of of books. And she says, the toads with both the toads.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
The next two doors down on the left, back up that way, there's a room full of giant toads writing scripts.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
They are keeping track of Arauthator's possessions as well. I say they do keep track. They do keep very good history of the North. They do. They're quite intelligent creatures. Yeah.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Do you think that they'll have a history of what the deal was for him to give up The Draakhorn?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
They may.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
When we asked about The Draakhorn, they didn't give us any information.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
If you asked them directly, then they didn't tell you, they might not have that information. What they keep is more valuable information of..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
But they would keep a ledger of where it went, right? And how to get there?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Perhaps only who went to.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
That's a good start.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
All right.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
What I would like to bring, the majority of it, is in the scriptorium. But some of it may be in Arauthator's layer as well.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Well, we'll kill them first and then you can take anything you want.
Russ:
She goes to her desk or she's at her desk. She opens a drawer and pulls out a ring and lays it on the desk, and then goes to a fold in the in the tapestries on the wall and pulls out two arrows and says,
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
This is the ring of cold resistance. And these are two arrows of dragon slaying that I've been able to craft since I've been here. They may help you in your fight against Arauthator. I can tell you how his layer is laid out. I know Arauthator tends to use traps in his layers, I cannot tell you where those are, as he keeps a close eye on me when I go down there. So just be wary when you are down there to watch out for traps.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Yes
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
There are two entrances, one through the scriptorium, which is directly behind us here. Another in a storeroom further down the hall, which drops in to a further area from where he is located.
Russ:
She begins describing the whole gist of his realm there.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
He is generally in the west, most area of his layer dropping down from the scriptorium. You go into his perch area where he sometimes spends his time..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Perching!
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Perching and lounging, if you will.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Is it, okay, hold on. I'm imagining big like one of those little like, like Tweety Bird has that swing..
Carla:
Mm hmm.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Is it like that?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
Well, it's more of a shelf, but it is where he often will be sleeping. And then the abyss where he spends most of his time down from that drops down..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
He calls it the abyss?
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
That's what I call it.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Cheery.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
It is a - it is very cold. He thought this whole iceberg was cold, it is colder. Down there, the second entrance, which is over in the store room there, drops down into an area with large ice pillars. And then there are two tunnels which lead into the abyss.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Okay. Where do you guys think we should go down?
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Well, I mean, at least the scriptorium we know just goes right there, whereas do we know where the store room is? Because we could run into more creatures out, geting to that store room.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
It's not too far, though.
Russ:
You haven't you haven't been to it yet. But the way she describes it, it is..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Just down the hall to the left.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Oh, I see. Yeah.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Because I think that would give us probably, I think I prefer not to be on a perch because how high up is that perch?
Russ:
That perch is 16 feet and then the abyss is goes down to 0. So it's like a 16 foot drop from the light blue area to the dark blue area.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
That's a survivable drop.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
I also feel like perch seems like maybe a bad idea in case he's sleeping there.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Yeah, 'cause although..
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Or maybe that's good? Maybe we want to sneak up on him when he's sleeping.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I would prefer to kill him in his sleep.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Do you guys happen to have the name of the previous Ice Dragon that we fought written down anywhere?
Perhaps.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
'Cause I'm thinking if we can go in there and say, 'like we don't want to kill you, but like we've done this before' and we can reference, like, the dragon that we killed, then that might be like he might take our threat a little more serious.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Was it Verram?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
No, that's a that's one of the head Dragon Cult people, isn't it?
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Yeah.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Glaz... Glazhale.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Glazhale, that sounds right.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I have white dragons ice and stuff beside this.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Perfect. Perfect. Yeah.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Blagothkis? No. Who is that? Was that the ice giant? Blagothkis?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Yup.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Yes. He's a giant cloud giant.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Okay. Glashale then. And how about Glashale?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I think it's with a 'z' though, I think it's Glazhale.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
That could be. I always just have to try and do it phonetically.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Yeah, it's a good call.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
So, yeah,
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
'cause I think if if he's not sleeping and we can't just kind of like sneak out, I think we need to announce ourselves and lay like an ultimatum.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Absolutely. An all tomato.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
An all tomato.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Just go in, all tomato.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Get that devil fruit out of here. I figure if we drop in there and can actually reference the fact that we have killed an ice dragon before and we don't really want to kill this guy, we just want to be on our way.
Russ:
Of course.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Maybe he'll let us go.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Oh, yeah. But he needs to let us go. And... Maccath, which he just might not be willing to do.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
But we don't have to tell him that part.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
How are we going to sneak her and what she wants to bring out?
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
That is a good question..
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
'Cause she is not coming with us right now, right?
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
No, I have a feeling she'll probably stay in her fort.
Russ:
She won't come with you down to the layer. Is that what you're asking?
Carla:
Yes.
Tom:
Yeah.
Russ:
No, no. She she describes the entrance to the layer to you. And it is from the scriptorium. It is relatively easy to get down. But neither area is easy to get out of. Arauthator wishes prisoners and guests alike. We make sure that it's not easy for them to get out of.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Ok.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
So when we go down, we leave a rope dangling.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Flint has that ladder.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
I do have my ladder.
Amy:
True! And I also have.. How big are these opening?
Russ:
20 feet. Whereas area eleven is closer to about 10 to 15 feet across. She says that he is able to clamor up and down this passage without difficulty.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Both of..
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
I also have. I also have guacamole.
Russ:
And the chute goes down about 60 feet to the roof of area 19, after which there is a 15 foot drop to the ice platform. Huh.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
This is gonna be fun.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
It's like a little - it's like an ice slide. Like we're doing - we're luging. We're skeletoning down there. Right?
Russ:
Exactly.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
And guacamole could probably help us get out.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Right.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
If we needed to, at least through the bigger one. Probably that number 6.
Russ:
6...
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Probably not fly out, but she's got these giant talons and can probably if a dragon can crawl its way out of there, I'm assuming an owl could do the same.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Sounds reasonable to me.
Russ:
Yeah. The chute and the other one is a 60 foot drop as well.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
The 60 foot drop or a 60 foot slide?
Russ:
A 60 foot drop.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Oh.
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
That sounds lovely.
Russ:
You'd drop 60 feet to the top of a platform.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Ok. So I say we go down the one in the scriptorium because that's a slide and a 15 foot drop correct?
Russ:
Yeah. You can make it down there with ropes or some other climbing gear.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
But 60 foot drop just seems like...
Flint Firebeard (Tom):
Sounds like it's going to hurt.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Yeah.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Make a saving throw. See if you plunge to your death.
Nulara Moonbrook (Carla):
Yes.
Thia Amastacia (Amy):
Yeah. So let's go down there.
Carla:
Can we have a long rest there in that nice warm tent and get all our hit points back before we fight the dragon?
Russ:
She says.
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
You may help me get what I need ready in the scriptorium before we hopefully depart. You may rest until you feel ready to fight or Arauthator as long as he is down there and you are up here, I feel you will be safe. She parts the fabric of her tent and leads you back into the scriptorium where there are walls covered and bookshelves covered with scrolls and books and writings.
Russ:
And she tosses you a bag, rather small one by the looks of it, and says
Maccath the Crimson (Russ):
start fillin' her up.
