Notta AI Review

As transcription services become increasingly important for both businesses and individuals, platforms like Notta AI have emerged to meet this growing demand. Notta AI promises to streamline the process of converting speech into text, aiming to provide users with a practical and efficient solution. But does it live up to expectations?

In this review, we will explore its main features, accuracy, and overall ease of use, giving you a clearer understanding of its strengths and potential drawbacks. We will also suggest potential Notta AI alternatives for anyone who wants to try something different.

Notta AI Overview

Notta AI is an advanced AI-powered transcription tool that converts audio and video files into written text with high accuracy. It utilizes advanced artificial intelligence and natural language processing technologies to deliver fast and reliable transcriptions.

Features of Notta AI

Here are some notable features of Notta AI that make it an option for professionals looking for AI automation in their meetings.

AI Notes by Notta

Notta’s AI Notes feature streamlines the process of capturing and summarizing meeting information. It generates concise summaries of key points, decisions, and action items from meeting transcripts using advanced AI technology.

Users can tailor their notes through customizable templates and submit specific prompts for personalized insights. The tool allows for easy sharing of recaps via email, Slack, or Notion, ensuring all stakeholders remain aligned.

Ideal for professionals looking to save time and stay organized, Notta AI Notes enhances meeting productivity by distilling essential information efficiently.

AI Transcription

Notta’s AI Transcription tool allows users to convert audio and video files into text with up to 98% accuracy. Now, 98% is a hugely optimistic claim made by Notta. We’ll do an in-depth review of that in a minute.

This automated service supports various file formats and can handle large uploads, including live speech transcription. The tool also offers features like speaker identification, translation into over two dozen languages, and one-click summarization.

Meeting Recording Software

Notta’s meeting recording software allows users to capture both audio and video from platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Webex, as well as in-person meetings. The tool records meetings seamlessly and provides AI-powered transcription, making it easy to retrieve, share, and review important details.

With high transcription accuracy and security, Notta simplifies meeting documentation, enhancing productivity by ensuring no important information is missed. The recorded meetings can be stored and accessed on any device, with features like customizable transcripts and sharing options to facilitate collaboration.

Scheduler by Notta

The Notta Scheduler simplifies the process of scheduling one-on-one meetings. It eliminates the need for back-and-forth emails by allowing users to share a booking link with their availability.

The tool integrates seamlessly with Google Calendar, ensuring appointments are automatically synced and preventing double bookings. Users can create multiple booking pages, and meeting participants don’t need a Notta account to schedule.

The Scheduler also sends automatic reminders, making it a hassle-free solution for organizing meetings and appointments efficiently.

How Accurate is Notta AI?

Notta’s claimed accuracy is 98%+, which is extremely impressive on paper. But there is a caveat here.

We used Notta’s free trial to transcribe a Forbes interview featuring tech reviewer MKBHD.

Here’s a screenshot of the transcript generated by Notta.

The transcription in itself is fairly accurate. It only transcribed words incorrectly in places where the speaker, Marques, mumbled or stuttered some words. However, the main problems here are the punctuation, capitalization, and how it processes the starting and ending of sentences.

Let’s dive a little deeper into the problems.

Professionally Recorded Interview

The first aspect to highlight is the quality of the audio used in this transcription. It is well-established that the accuracy of AI transcriptions heavily depends on the clarity of the sound. In this case, the interview was conducted by Forbes, a major global media outlet, and featured Marques Brownlee, a seasoned tech YouTuber known for his exceptionally high production quality.

The audio setup likely involved equipment costing thousands of dollars, and Brownlee’s extensive experience ensures optimal sound quality. This far exceeds the typical audio environments encountered in standard meetings, where equipment quality is often significantly lower.

If Notta struggles to achieve its claimed 98% accuracy under such ideal conditions, it is unlikely to perform at that level in more challenging scenarios—such as those involving budget microphones, background noise, crosstalk, and connectivity issues.

Punctuation

The transcription generated by Notta lacks basic punctuation, making it difficult to process. There are random capitalizations, no periods to indicate sentence breaks, no commas, and no paragraphing to enhance readability. As a result, the transcript appears as a continuous block of text, requiring substantial editing.

While the word accuracy is reasonably high, around 90%, the absence of proper punctuation significantly detracts from its usability. This issue forces users to spend considerable time preparing the transcription for professional use, which undermines the efficiency that AI transcription tools are meant to provide.

Time Stamping

Although Notta claims to offer advanced time-stamping capabilities, our testing did not reflect this. The tool generated only two paragraphs with minimal time stamps—at 00:00 and 00:43—which provided little value. These limited time markers fall short of what is needed for effective navigation through the transcription, rendering the feature insufficient for professional use.

In summary, Notta’s transcription accuracy is comparable to YouTube’s native transcript generator. Both tools produce highly accurate transcriptions but share the same deficiencies, such as the lack of punctuation and paragraphing.

The key distinction, however, is that while YouTube’s automated captions are free, Notta is a paid service. This raises questions about the added value that Notta provides, given its similar performance to that of a free tool.

Can Other Tools Achieve Higher Transcription?

There are other tools, such as Sonix, that offer significantly higher transcription accuracy. Sonix is an advanced AI-driven platform capable of delivering up to 99% accuracy in transcriptions. Its highly sophisticated automated speech recognition (ASR) technology excels at navigating complex audio inconsistencies, ensuring a more precise output than many competing tools.

Sonix’s ability to handle varying audio qualities sets it apart, providing reliable and efficient transcription services that outperform most tools available on the market.

When generating a transcript for the same Forbes video, Sonix outperformed Notta in several key areas:

Here is how Sonix managed to do a much better job.

  • Timestamps: Sonix produced highly accurate timestamps, dividing the transcript into logical, easily digestible segments.
  • Punctuation and Capitalization: Sonix excelled in punctuating and capitalizing sentences properly, ensuring a polished and professional output.
  • Subtitle-Ready Structure: The transcript generated by Sonix is optimized for use as subtitles, allowing users to customize the content displayed in each subtitle.
  • Grammarly Compatibility: While a subtle feature, Grammarly integration in Sonix offers a valuable advantage in ensuring the accuracy of transcriptions. For instance, during the transcription of the Forbes interview, Marques Brownlee made a minor grammatical error, saying “tech videos reviews” instead of “tech video reviews.” Grammarly could not flag this error as it could not detect grammatical errors in Notta’s editor. In contrast, Sonix’s versatile in-browser editor is seamlessly compatible with Grammarly, allowing users to catch and correct such grammatical inconsistencies when they stem from the speaker’s original audio.

In comparison, Notta did not offer similar levels of accuracy or refinement. Sonix’s superior capabilities provide a more reliable and efficient solution for transcription needs.

Benefits of Using Notta AI

An AI transcription tool like Notta AI offers several significant benefits that can revolutionize the way you work with audio and video content. Let’s explore how this powerful transcription tool can enhance your productivity and streamline your workflow.

Saves Time and Effort in Note-taking

Taking notes during meetings, interviews, or lectures can be time-consuming and distracting. With Notta AI, you can focus on actively participating in the conversation without worrying about jotting down every detail. The AI-powered transcription feature automatically converts spoken words into written text, saving you valuable time and effort.

Enables Easy Sharing and Collaboration

Notta AI makes it effortless to share transcripts with your team members or collaborators. Once the transcription is complete, you can easily export the text in various formats, such as TXT, DOCX, SRT, PDF, or XLSX. This allows you to distribute the transcript quickly and efficiently, facilitating seamless collaboration and ensuring everyone is on the same page.

Improves Accessibility for Hearing-Impaired Individuals

Notta AI’s real-time transcription capabilities are a game-changer for hearing-impaired individuals. By providing accurate and instant transcriptions, Notta AI enables equal access to information and participation in meetings, webinars, or educational settings. This feature promotes inclusivity and ensures that no one is left behind due to hearing difficulties.

Facilitates Efficient Meeting Recaps and Follow-ups

The AI summarizer feature in Notta AI simplifies the process of creating meeting recaps and follow-ups. Instead of manually reviewing the entire transcript, you can rely on the AI-generated summaries to quickly grasp the key points and action items discussed during the meeting. This saves you time and allows you to focus on implementing the decisions made rather than spending hours sifting through lengthy transcripts.

Cons of Notta AI

While Notta AI offers numerous benefits, it’s also important to be aware of some potential drawbacks. In this section, we outline the main challenges users might face when using Notta AI.

Low Accuracy

Notta’s transcription accuracy falls short compared to some of its competitors, particularly in complex audio environments. While Notta advertises up to 98% accuracy, our testing revealed several shortcomings, such as missing punctuation, inconsistent capitalization, and inadequate paragraphing. These issues result in unstructured, hard-to-read transcripts that require significant manual editing to be suitable for professional use.

Furthermore, Notta’s limited timestamping capabilities and inability to handle subtle grammatical errors contribute to its lower accuracy. In contrast, other transcription tools provide more reliable, polished outputs, raising concerns about Notta’s value as a paid service.

Unethical Billing Practises

Notta offers a 3-day free trial, but users must cancel by the second day to avoid charges—a detail buried in the fine print. If a user misses this window, they’re not billed monthly but rather defaulted to an annual subscription.

Unfortunately, Notta does not process refunds for these accidental charges, as this policy is disclosed in their terms. While technically legal, such practices are questionable from an ethical standpoint, as they can lead to unexpected financial commitments for users who may not have intended to subscribe long-term, leaving them with little recourse for resolution.

Free Trial

Notta’s free trial offers 120 minutes of transcription per month but limits users to just 3 minutes per file, and access to advanced features is heavily restricted. In contrast, Sonix provides a 30-minute free trial with full access to its entire suite of services, without any limitations or compromises.

Additionally, Sonix does not require a credit card to sign up, making it a more transparent and user-friendly option for those seeking to evaluate transcription software without hidden restrictions or obligations. This difference highlights Sonix’s commitment to offering a comprehensive and straightforward trial experience.

Limited Integration

Notta AI offers basic integration with some popular tools, but its integration capabilities are not as extensive as those offered by some of its competitors, such as Sonix AI. This can be a drawback for users who rely on a seamless workflow that includes multiple software platforms.

For instance, professionals in media production or legal services who need to integrate transcription services with tools like Adobe Premiere or cloud storage services may find Notta AI’s integration options somewhat limiting. This limitation may necessitate additional manual steps in the workflow, which could be a drawback for users seeking full automation.

Check out our table below to see how Notta AI’s features compare to Sonix.

Final Thoughts – Is Notta AI Worth It?

In conclusion, Notta AI offers some valuable features, such as basic transcription services and limited free trial access. However, the tool falls short in key areas like punctuation, timestamp accuracy, and paragraphing, making the output less usable without significant manual editing.

The limitations of the free trial, confusing billing policies, and lack of advanced features further diminish its value, especially considering the subscription cost. For users seeking a more reliable and professional transcription service, Notta does not offer a strong return on investment.

For those looking for an alternative, Sonix stands out as a superior option. It offers flexible and transparent pricing, claims and delivers 99% transcription accuracy, and includes advanced AI analysis tools. Collaboration features, bank-level security, an intuitive in-browser editor, and numerous export options make Sonix a comprehensive solution for transcription needs.

Additionally, Sonix’s free trial provides full access to all features without requiring a credit card, ensuring transparency and flexibility for users.
