Next up is Happy Scribe, a trusted service renowned in the AI and human transcription eco-space. Happy Scribe boasts a combination of expert human transcribers and AI-powered technology to take audio and video files and turn them into transcriptions, captions, and more.
It is worth noting that, for Happy Scribe, human services are a priority. Their human transcription is top-notch, but their AI services do end up getting a little less love because of it.
Happy Scribe is a good choice for those who require transcription services that feature human intervention. The human-powered transcriptions and subtitles produced by Happy Scribe are known for being fairly accurate (85% accuracy), but are a little pricey.
That aside, Happy Scribe is suited for businesses and content creators that require content in many languages.
Here’s a breakdown of the core features of Happy Scribe
A leading feature of the Happy Scribe is its capability to do AI transcriptions. In terms of creating AI transcriptions, captions, and subtitles, the features are somewhat similar to those of Sonix, with the main difference being accuracy.
While Sonix is accurate upwards of 97% of the time, AI-generated content from Happy Scribe is rated 85% in accuracy.
However, you can achieve some decent results with human editing. Due to this, users may choose the more accurate human services offered by Happy Scribe.
If you’re looking strictly for AI-based accuracy, you might want to take a look at some Happy Scribe alternatives since the accuracy here isn’t the best out there.
Happy Scribe employs a network of professionally trained transcribers and translators to produce accurate transcriptions and subtitles.
Although human transcription is much slower and more expensive than automated transcription, it is ideal for those with videos and audio where the sound quality isn’t up to par.
Files that have speakers with heavy accents, where there are multiple speakers at once, or heavy background noise, may benefit from human transcription.
Although the AI-generated content from Happy Scribe may fall behind its competitors, it stands out in terms of language capabilities.
Happy Scribe, mainly thanks to the human element, is able to transcribe and translate in over 120 different languages. This is where content creators who need to reach a wide audience can very much benefit.
Happy Scribe allows users to create shared workspaces where files can be easily shared. This allows for relatively efficient teamwork and collaboration. However, the collaboration tools from Happy Scribe could be slightly improved.
Happy Scribe has many plans to choose from, with the first being a free plan that costs nothing, but it’s also very limited in terms of features and the amount of transcription minutes you get.
We ran a 6-minute interview Elon Musk interview on Happy Scribe’s AI transcription tool and it did its job by transcribing the video. However, we weren’t able to download or export the subtitles without upgrading to a paid package. Furthermore, transcribing further videos was also locked behind a paywall.
If you want to go for human transcription with Happy Scribe, that costs $1.75 per Minute
Last but not least, we have Otter, a transcription service hailed for its ability to transcribe meetings in real-time.
Thanks to this, it’s a suitable choice for lecturers, educators, professionals to record live meetings through Google Meet, Zoom, Teams, and more.
Otter has a few features that put it in direct competition with Sonix. They’re listed down below.
An appealing feature of Otter is that it is able to record and transcribe real time conversations, particularly for lectures, meetings, and other such live events.
Although Otter only transcribes in English at this time, it is able to do with 83% accuracy, which, if we’re being honest, does leave a lot to ask for.
A leading feature of Otter is known as OtterPilot, which allows the AI to join Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, or Zoom meetings, and automatically transcribe them in real-time. This is particularly useful for teams and enterprises that require their meetings to be recorded for future analysis.
Otter is also ideal for transcribing and recording meetings and conversations, particularly as it automatically creates summaries of those conversations.
With advanced technology that allows it to identify the most important points in a meeting or conversation, it easily summarizes a lengthy transcript into a concise document, complete with easy-to-read notes. Although, customers have reported that this features isn’t as reliable as you’d want.
The system also automatically sends all meeting members a follow-up email including various important pieces of information.
As far as live meetings and conversation transcripts are concerned, Otter is among the best in the business in terms of collaborative features.
Otter is able to effectively manage conversations by allowing users to tag and edit transcripts, by allowing conversations to be easily shared with team members and organized into various channels, and by allowing conversations to be further categorized into folders.
Otter workspaces, designed specifically for organizations and teams, also features user management, centralized billings, reporting and analytics, centralized conversation management, and more. However, many of these collaborative features are only available with the enterprise solution.
Otter has various plans to choose from, including one of the best free plans in the industry.
However, it is important to mention here that there are a lot of customers complaining about Otter’s pricing tiers. Prices keep changing, features are being moved to higher tiers, and customers are charged more without being notified. So, it’s important to note that these prices are correct at the time of writing but they may change in the future.
There’s no question that Sonix is a leading competitor in terms of turnaround time, being able to process many hours of content in just a few minutes.
Although Happy Scribe and Otter are also quick, you need to keep in mind their level of accuracy.
In terms of overall accuracy, particularly regarding artificial intelligence-generated content, Sonix is the clear winner, coming in at 99%, with Happy Scribe coming in at roughly 85%, and Otter at upwards of 83%. Yes, the human transcription services offered by Happy Scribe are high in quality as well, but also far more expensive and time-consuming.
Sonix really stands out in terms of its integrations, with a whole bunch of web conferencing, multimedia, research, and productivity integrations, dozens of them.
Otter also has some decent integration capabilities, although these are mainly focused on live meeting tools, such as Zoom and Google Meet. Happy Scribe, on the other hand, falls far behind on this front, as there are not many third-party integrations available.
Sonix is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition as far as security is concerned, with just some of the features including SSL and at-rest encryption, SOC 2 type 2 compliance, TLS data encryption, enterprise-grade security file storage, two-factor authentication, a dedicated security team, password policy enforcement.
Otter also has good security features, with 2FA, AWS SSE, a 256-bit AES standard, and more, while Happy Scribe features TLS encryption and disaster recovery, among others. Otter does seem to join every meeting on your calendar, even if you’re only invited to stay in the loop, so that is something to keep in mind.
Despite decent security features, Otter and Happy Scribe don’t come anywhere close to Sonix in this category.
Sonix is a great option for those who need individual transcriptions and subtitles, as there is a fantastic pay-as-you-go plan that is very affordable. The premium and enterprise subscriptions are also quite affordable, and although they are not the cheapest in the world, also offer some of the most advanced features available.
Happy Scribe may have more plans and diverse pricing options to choose from, but quantity does not equal quality, and if you want high-quality results, you’ll have to shell out the big bucks for Happy Scribe’s human services. As far as pricing is concerned, Otter is the cheapest of the three, albeit with some limited functionality. As we said earlier, you’ll need to keep an eye on their tier pricing since they do tend to change.
If what you need are transcripts in many languages, Happy Scribe is a prime choice, as it supports over 120 languages, however human translation services are extremely expensive. Next on the list is Sonix, with over 39 languages supported, and dead last is Otter, which functions only in English.
Happy Scribe | Otter | Sonix | |
Accuracy | 3.5 | 4 | 5 |
Pricing | 4 | 5 | 4.8 |
Customer Support | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.7 |
User Interface | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.6 |
Services Offered | 4.5 | 3.5 | 4.6 |
Multi-User Capabilities | 3 | 4.5 | 5 |
Security | 3.5 | 4 | 4.7 |
Average | 3.92 | 4.28 | 4.77 |
Although Otter and Happy Scribe are both great options to consider in terms of transcription services, there is no doubt that Sonix is the winner among them, the best transcription software available at this time. In terms of ease of use, the cost considering the services offered, the amount of services offered, and the overall quality, Sonix comes out on top.
